Getting to Lady Margaret Hall: Directions and transport:
By car:
From whichever direction you are coming, it is best to reach LMH from the northern end of the
Oxford Ring Road; the city centre is difficult to navigate unless you already know exactly where you are going.
From London (M40 heading North):
- Leave the M40 at Junction 8 (signposted Oxford, Cheltenham): the road
merges onto the A40.
- After about 5 miles you come to Headington Roundabout with a MacDonald’s
on the left. Take the 3rd exit onto the A40, signposted "Ring Road Cheltenham
A40 The Midlands (A34)".
- Continue for 3 miles until you reach the Cutteslowe Roundabout.
Take the 1st exit onto the A4165, signposted "Summertown, City Centre":
this is the Banbury Road.
- Continue south for 1.7 miles along the Banbury Road, through
Summertown shopping area. Turn left at the Cotswold Lodge Hotel
(immediately after Park Town) into Norham Road.
- Take the 2nd right into Fyfield Road, the last turning off Norham Road.
You can park here and the entrance into LMH is at the end on the left.
From the Midlands (M40 heading South):
- Leave the M40 at Junction 9 signposted Oxford, taking the A34 South.
- After about 5 miles you will see the exit to Oxford A44, signposted
"Ring Road, Oxford, London, Cheltenham (A40)": this is the Pear Tree
Roundabout, underneath the A34, from which you take the A44 2nd exit.
- After just 0.4 miles on the A44, at the Wolvercote Roundabout take the
2nd exit signposted "Ring Road London A40" and after another 0.4 miles you
meet the Cutteslowe Roundabout. Take the 3rd exit onto the A4165
signposted "Summertown, City Centre": this is the Banbury Road.
- Follow steps 4. and 5. as above.
From the West (A40 heading East):
- This road brings you directly to the Wolvercote Roundabout:
take the 3rd exit signposted "Ring Road London A40", carrying on straight
ahead, and after 0.4 miles you meet the Cutteslowe Roundabout.
Take the 3rd exit onto the A4165 signposted "Summertown, City Centre":
this is the Banbury Road.
- Follow steps 4. and 5. as above.
The map below shows the exact street location (postcode OX2 6QA).
There is plenty of free parking Saturday afternoon and all of Sunday in the
streets immediately in front of LMH (Fyfield Road, Crick Road, Norham Gardens)
but you must take care not to park in a bay permanently reserved for residents.
The bays you should use have signs indicating that you can park there either with a
residents permit or "pay and display" Monday to Friday 8am to 6.30 pm and
Saturday 8am to 1pm: outside those hours these bays are free for use by anyone.
By train or bus:
There are two bus companies providing frequent services between
Central London and Oxford's Gloucester Green bus station.
The Oxford Bus company also runs
regular services from London's Heathrow and Gatwick Airports;
ring 01865 785400 or consult the Airports page at www.theairline.info
For train services to Oxford ring the 08457 48 49 50, or consult
the Railtrack site at www.networkrail.co.uk
From the rail or bus stations it takes respectively about 20 or 15 minutes
on foot through the centre of town and across (or around) the lovely
University Parks to get to LMH. The map shows the route. The exit from the Parks
is the Lady Margaret Gate. If you prefer not to walk, there are taxi ranks
at both stations and, unlike some journeys across the centre of Oxford, this
one is (usually) quick and straightforward.

College, please contact the Porter's Lodge (01865 274300)
